Summary:

 

Under the direction of the Director of Special Instructional Services for FCPS, this position will be part of the team responsible for scheduling and assessing preschool-age children and children who attend private schools or are homeschooled who have been referred for evaluations to determine whether or not they require special education services. This person must have an understanding of the special education process, knowledge and experience with developmental disabilities, and an ability to collaborate with the child find team. This position will also provide itinerant services to early childhood students eligible for special education services.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Eligible for, or hold, a Virginia Teacher License with an endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education.
  • A desire to participate in the Transdisciplinary Play-Based Assessment system for preschool-age children.
  • A desire to provide itinerant services to students eligible for special education services in various settings, including the home, community preschools, and/or other early childhood programs in our community.

Essential Duties:

 

Essential duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature. Other duties may be assigned. Participate in the Special Services Referral Team (SSRT) meeting process and eligibility meeting process for students suspected of having a disability under the IDEA. Act as a participant in the comprehensive evaluation process for transdisciplinary play-based assessments for preschool-aged children who are suspected of having a disability. Collaborate with other team members to analyze and interpret assessment data using an understanding of disabling conditions. Manage the organization and processing of assigned cases for special education eligibility, including monitoring, reviewing, and liaison tasks. Maintain a case management log and provide other information as required for management purposes. Collaborate with team members to generate initial IEPs for preschool-age children that are found eligible for special education services. Possess strong knowledge of the content area, teaching methods, learning styles and educational research related to special education students of all levels and abilities. Demonstrate strong case management, communication, organization and planning skills. Positively impact achievement and differentiate instruction based on the needs of the students by supporting programs designed to increase student achievement. Demonstrate problem-solving skills through collaborative work with students, teachers, staff, parents and administrators. Provide direct and indirect support special education services to students eligible for special education. Perform other duties as required

 

Pay Rate:

Teacher Salary Scale (credit is based on years of full-time experience in a related position)

 

 

Contract:
Full time / 10 months / 200 days
